Beaches

Adrasan Bay and Its Beaches

Adrasan is a quiet bay in the Kumluca district of Antalya with a beach roughly 2 km long, a mix of sand and fine shingle, closed in by pine-covered mountains. The water is shallow and clear, which suits families; it is also the departure point for Suluada, the Genoese Cove and Pirate Cove, which have no road to them.

Island

Suluada

Suluada is an uninhabited island off Adrasan, known for its white sand and clear turquoise water; its name comes from the fresh water found on it. It can only be reached by boat — the day trips from Adrasan jetty take about an hour and make a long swimming stop.

Pirate Cove is a calm, clear-water inlet hidden among the rocks near Adrasan; the name comes from the story that it was once used as a hiding place. It is normally reached on the day boat trips from Adrasan, which anchor there for a swim.

The ruins of ancient Olympos, Kumluca, Antalya

History

Ancient Olympos

Olympos was one of the important cities of the Lycian League and lies in a stream valley swallowed by forest, running right down to Olympos beach. It is about 25 km from Adrasan by road, roughly 35–40 minutes by car, and two to three hours is enough to see it.

The natural flames rising from the rock at Yanartaş (the Chimaera), Çıralı

Nature

Yanartaş (the Chimaera)

Yanartaş — the Chimaera — is a hillside near Çıralı where natural gas seeping from the rock has been burning by itself for thousands of years. From the car park it is a 20–30 minute walk up a stone path, and the flames look their best after dark.

The Gelidonya lighthouse, Taşlık Burnu – Kumluca, Antalya

The view

The Gelidonya lighthouse stands on Taşlık Burnu south of Adrasan and is reached on foot along the Lycian Way. The usual route starts at Karaöz and takes roughly 1.5–2 hours at a moderate grade; the lighthouse is at its best at sunset.
